Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker Knife Sharpener Review

Spyderco Sharpmaker Review – Why Knife Collectors Should Invest On This

Spyderco is a cutlery company based in Colorado and is known for providing excellent quality products, especially their knives. But other than the knives, the company is also known for offering the best knife sharpeners in the market and proof of this is the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker.

Well, I am an avid knife collector with over 200 different types of knives. For the past months I have reviewed more than 50 knives and created a buying guide for the best pocket knives in the market. This is why I am very familiar with Spyderco. I have a several Spyderco knives in my collection and I am very much pleased with the performance of all of them, so when the time came where I needed to purchase a knife sharpener, Spyderco was the brand that was first on my list. On this Spyderco Sharpmaker review, I will share to you my thoughts and experiences of using this innovative knife sharpener.

Easiest System to Use

The Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker comprises of two sets of high aluminum ceramic stones. One is a pair of brown 7″ X 0.5″ stones ideal for aggressive sharpening and another is a set of white 7″ X 0.5″ stones, which is perfect for professional grade finishing. The stones are in triangular shape so it would be able to sharpen plain edges, including flat sides and serrations, as well as the corners.

The rod shaped stones will snap right to the slots on the base holding them well at a proper angle so all that you will do is to keep the knife vertical while you pull it down towards the stone. According to Even Chad Ward, a well renowned kitchen knife guru who designed the product, it is the “easiest system to use” and I could not agree more. Although it is highly innovative, I find it to be very user friendly and that is worth mentioning on this Spyderco Sharpmaker review.

Here is a really great video the explain the whole process of using the sharpener in detail

Highly Versatile

It should be noted that the Sharpmaker is not only used for sharpening knives, and it’s definitely not just for Spyderco branded knives. The sharpener can actually be used for sharpening any other pointed items such as darts, fishhooks, awls or even one of the best throwing knives from our top 10 list. It even features a set of brass safety rods that keeps your hands protected while sharpening these pointed objects.

But on this Sharpmaker review, I would like to mention that exercising caution is still very important when using the sharpener because the ceramic stones, like glasses, could easily break if they drop.

The keyed slots of the sharpener as well as the holes would die cut towards the base accurately if the stone’s sharpening were set at a 30 degree or 40 degree angle, depending on the blade’s size. So if you need an all around sharpener that can do more than just sharpen your pocket knives, the Spyderco Sharpmaker is certainly recommended.

If you go online and read another Spyderco Sharpmaker review, you will find that a lot of customers are pleased with how the product works, although there are others who also found some minor drawbacks in using the product. But personally, I love how the product works and I actually can’t find any reason why knife collectors like me should not invest on this great accessory.
